Job SummaryThis role monitors cardiac rhythms and capnography, recognizes rhythm changes, and reports findings to the primary RN. The Technician documents records, performs clerical functions, and supports quality patient care in critical care units. The Nurse Director may re‑assign to other units based on volume and acuity.
Job Duties Clerical Duties- Accurately enter patient telemetry information and log into the monitor system.
- Assemble and disassemble patient shadow charts to facilitate patient flow.
- Respond promptly to delegated tasks within scope of practice.
- Complete necessary paperwork during EHR downtime to ensure timely tests, consults, and treatments.
- Report appropriate overhead pages via the paging system to Admitting staff.
- Complete after‑visit summaries (AVS) and discharge or transfer processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
- Identify all patient information while complying with HIPAA standards.
- Assist with patient transfers, ambulation, feeding, dressing, bathing, weighing, and toileting.
- Deliver specimens and supplies promptly to the hospital.
- Respond promptly to all patient‑safety alarms, including call lights, bed, and chair alarms.
- Apply monitors and report to the RN the effectiveness of safety devices and mobility alarms.
- Participate with the RN in patient‑safety rounding and customer service.
- Initiate cleaning of patient care areas upon discharge and prepare rooms for new admissions.
- Notify the primary RN immediately of significant changes in monitor patterns.
- Accurately recognize and report life‑threatening arrhythmias (VT, VF, Asystole).
- Accurately interpret cardiac rhythm parameters at admission and during significant changes.
- Advocate for patient safety by ensuring appropriate alarms are set and maintained.
- Perform troubleshooting at the bedside, including battery replacement and electrode maintenance.
- Document and communicate monitored recordings accurately to the primary RN.
- Provide the RN with rhythm strip printouts for admission, shift changes, and significant rhythm changes.
- Follow hospital safety, disaster, and emergency procedures.
- Clean and disinfect equipment needed.
- Attend required in‑services and maintain at least 50% yearly attendance at unit staff meetings.
- Adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate competency of CNA responsibilities for patient care.
- Show excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Sit observing monitors for extended periods of time.
- Order and maintain supplies needed for monitoring.
- Maintain equipment inventory and report missing or damaged equipment.
- Collaborate with Biomedical Engineering for equipment maintenance and return.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Graduate of Nursing Aide or EMT program; current certification preferred.
- One year of relevant medical education/experience with hands‑on patient care.
- Basic ECG training at hire or within 60 days preferred.
- ECG certification or obtain within 60 days.
- BLS certification obtainable within two months of hire.
- One‑year telemetry monitoring experience preferred.
- Experience in ambulatory or inpatient healthcare settings with multitasking ability.
