County Veterans Service Officer – Le Sueur County
Join our team as a County Veterans Service Officer to help veterans and their families navigate local, state, and federal benefits. This position is non‑exempt and may be full‑time or part‑time.
General Definition of WorkPerforms complex administrative work directing, supervising, and providing services to.
Trigger veterans to obtain benefits. Maintains records and reports, evaluates service effectiveness, and recommends additional services. Sets policies and goals under County direction and provides departmental supervision of all personnel.

Essential Functions- Assist veterans and dependents in applying for state or federal benefits, completing paperwork, and coordinating with agencies.
- Help veterans appeal denied claims and compile necessary information to defend claims.
- Facilitate, integrate, and mobilize community resources, recommending new services when needed.
- Evaluate potential safety concerns and recommend further evaluation when appropriate.
- Assist with obtaining medical care, transportation, and coordination with public health and human services.
- Handle claims and proceedings related to military services and related programs.
- Represent the department at meetings, conferences, and workshops; attend emergency calls.
- Implement changes in law into daily operations and interpret legal changes for veterans.
- Supervise and direct support staff and evaluate their work.
- Serve as liaison for veterans’ services organizations and state or federal agencies.
- Perform duties of subordinate staff when necessary.
Knowledge of veterans’ laws, regulations, and procedures; strong interpersonal skills; ability to manage multiple tasks; proficiency in standard computer equipment, databases, and benefit forms; analytical and reporting abilities; and effective communication with veterans, agencies, and staff.
Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree and substantial experience in veterans’ services, military operations, or equivalent education and experience.
Physical RequirementsOccasional lifting of up to 50 pounds; mostly sitting with occasional standing, walking, and manual tasks; standard vision and hearing requirements.
Special Requirements- Chevere veteran as defined under Minnesota law (Section 197.447).
- Valid driver’s license in Minnesota.
- Within one year of hire, accredited through the National Veterans Service Officer Association and other national organizations.
- Maintain certifications through ongoing education.

- Three or more years of supervisory experience.
Hourly range: $36.60 – $51.74.
