Job Summary

  • The primary purpose of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position is to provide direct resident care and assistance with activities of daily living to meet each resident’s physical, mental, psycho-social, and spiritual needs. Care is provided in accordance with the resident’s individualized, person-centered plan of care, and in compliance with established facility policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • The CNA performs basic nursing procedures and patient care tasks as delegated by licensed nursing staff, promptly reports changes in resident condition, and contributes to the interdisciplinary care process to ensure quality outcomes and continuity of care in the care center setting.
Casual (PRN)

An employee who is not regularly scheduled. To remain in this status, you must work the minimum hours below for the department you are in. Casual employees are not eligible for benefits or PTO/EIB. JMHS will consider it a voluntary resignation if an employee does not work the minimum hours. The only exception would be low census or granted leave of absence.

Hospital Nursing Employees must work a minimum of 36 hours in a rolling 3 month period. It is the responsibility of the casual employee to maintain any required certifications. Care Center employees must work a minimum of 48 hours in a rolling 6 month period which includes one weekend shift a month, based on schedule needs. It is the responsibility of the casual employee to inquire about open shifts.

Casual shifts are not guaranteed and must be mutually agreed upon, depending on both the employee's availability and the employer's need.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • The CNA supports residents in maintaining their dignity and highest practicable level of independence by assisting with tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, nutrition, mobility, and social engagement. Assists with meals and assists residents to eat. Ambulates, turns and positions residents. Provides fresh water and nourishment between meals.
  • Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assists in the orientation of new employees. Maintains good working relations with nursing staff and other facility employees through appropriate communication.
  • Instills confidence in residents by maintaining a neat appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner.
  • Communication with Residents, families, visitors, and coworkers using AIDET & Key Word principles. Listen attentively & observe both verbal & non-verbal communication.
  • Follows resident care plan and reports changes in condition to the appropriate chain of command.
  • Rounding – Check on each resident often looking at the four P’s
    - Positioning, Potty, Pain, & Peace of Mind.
  • Call Lights – Responsible for answering call lights promptly. Never pass a call light.
  • Abuse/Neglect Prevention & Reporting – Immediately report any suspected, actual, or potential abuse or neglect of Residents to the charge nurse/director of nursing/social worker & administrator.
  • Fall Prevention – Assist residents with safety devices following the individualized plan of care. Report risks, near misses, and falls immediately. Never move a resident after a fall, stay with Resident & alert a Nurse, who will assess for injuries & events of the fall.
  • Weights – Weigh & record weights for residents following the resident’s individualized plan of care. Report a change of three or more pounds up or down to the charge nurse.
  • Observe & Report – Any pertinent Resident observations, changes in condition, mood, behaviors, skin, accidents & incidents, risks for falls, complaints, etc. to the charge nurse.
  • Document – ADL’s, Mood, Behaviors, Restorative Care, Skin, Weights, Intakes & Outputs, Nutrition Intakes etc. as required & directed.
  • Attend 80% of regularly scheduled monthly meetings and educational training as assigned.
  • Help others succeed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
