Director of Government Relations Policy and Strategy (Grade 19, Exempt). Annual salary range: $154,. This range reflects the minimum to midpoint of the grade. Salary may exceed the midpoint and will commensurate with experience.

Job Description Summary

The Director of Government Relations Policy and Strategy is responsible for providing strategic leadership for Sourcewell’s state and federal government relations agenda, with a focus on creating, protecting, and expanding markets for cooperative purchasing. This role monitors, analyzes, and interprets federal, state, and local legislative activity affecting public procurement, supports legislation that advances cooperative purchasing, develops and executes state and federal level GR strategies, and coordinates closely with Government Affairs teams on targeted policy efforts.

The Director will lead the development of public policy and legislative strategies that advance Sourcewell-specific objectives within local, state and federal legal frameworks. Engage in policy analysis, legislative tracking, and strategic advocacy to support the organization’s government relations goals. Through this work, the position ensures Sourcewell’s policy interests are advanced, clearly communicated, and effectively represented across government audiences.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develop and update the public relations, government relations, regulation, and registration plans to align with business goals.
  • Manage a portfolio of public relations and government relations campaigns and negotiate service level agreements to ensure successful campaigns and value for money. Plan, coordinate, and supervise activities relating to major campaigns.
  • Oversee a particular area, product, or service within the larger public relations, government relations, regulation, and registration strategy. This involves managing development or delivery (or both).
  • Contribute to stakeholder engagement by identifying stakeholders; by finding out their needs, issues, and concerns; and by reacting to these needs, issues, and concerns, arranging meetings and events and drafting supporting materials to promote understanding and commitment.
  • Represent the organization or institution in a variety of industry, institutional, and/or professional forums, boards, and committees, in order to promote the company or institution brand or efforts. Focus is on their own expertise. May involve preparation of presentations and materials for professional partnering meetings, seminars, and conferences.
  • Take responsibility for providing specific elements of the regulatory affairs service with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Improve and develop procedures by giving and receiving feedback on what works and what doesn't, suggesting and implementing improvements to procedures and processes as needed for effectiveness.
  • Assist in developing procedures for an area of the organization and monitor their implementation.
  • Provide authoritative specialist advice to senior managers at the business unit or regional level to enable the implementation of policy, projects, and change initiatives.
  • Use the organization's formal development framework to identify the team's individual development needs. Plan and implement actions, including continuing professional development specified by professional or regulatory institutions, to build their professional capabilities. Provide informal training or coaching to others throughout the organization in own area of expertise to enable others to improve performance and fulfill personal potential.
  • Identify and communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the business area or department; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values; motivate people to commit to these tenets and do extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.
