Insight Global is hiring a Plant Engineer that will be responsible for identifying, designing, and implementing improvements to equipment, processes, and packaging systems to optimize current manufacturing operations and support the commercialization of new products. This role leads and manages optimization and capital projects in close collaboration with the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Plant Management teams. The Plant Engineer partners with site leadership and external contractors to define project scope, budgets, and timelines;
prepares project justifications and capital requests; and oversees projects from concept through execution. Key areas of focus include productivity improvements, yield enhancement, waste reduction, chemical usage optimization, CIP optimization, and the design and procurement of new equipment and innovative technologies that strengthen operational performance.
In addition, the Plant Engineer provides hands‑on technical support by troubleshooting equipment and packaging issues in the field, ensuring systems perform as designed and align with control programming. The role supports continuous improvement by developing and maintaining standard work, identifying new process improvement opportunities across quality, cost, performance, and maintenance, and collaborating with technical teams to implement effective solutions. The Plant Engineer also provides technical training to operators, enabling sound decision‑making at the lowest level, and works closely with employees to resolve issues and implement corrective actions.
Strong communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills are essential, along with a commitment to operating safely and ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and company standards. Some key attributes to a success plant engineer include understanding gas dryers, blenders, pumps, and packaging equipment, and extrusion experience is ideal. They will also have to have basic maintenance and programming experience because they will be the "go‑to" person for this plant regarding all maintenance, fixes, and upgrades.
Experience
- 3+ YOE in Plant Engineering, Improvement Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, or a similar role.
- Work Experience in pet food manufacturing or with other high‑protein food products and a good understanding of regulations and production certifications.
- Experience with gas dryers, blenders, pumps, and packaging equipment in a manufacturing plant.
- Ability to trouble shoot programming, hardware, software, and network issues as they relate to the process.
- Experience in engineering continuous improvement, technology modernization, machine learning and troubleshooting, etc.
- Basic maintenance and programming experience for machines and technology at the production plant.
- Working experience with AutoCAD, P& (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram), Extrusion Practices, and ownership of Capital Projects.
- Familiarity with food safety standards such as HACCP, GMP, and FDA regulations.
- Equipment knowledge of robotic palletizing systems, CIP Circuits, basic knowledge of Rockwell Systems.

Salary: $90,000-$130,000 depending on experience
