Position Summary: This position is responsible for providing molding process guidance to customers and to the engineering team, assisting with the quoting of new molding projects, supporting the project engineering team with molding process development, providing optimized manufacturing processes to the production team, and implementing new technologies related to improving the injection molding process.

Schedule: While the standard schedule is daytime office hours, this position requires flexibility to meet the needs of a 24/7 manufacturing environment.

Salary: Exempt. Salary range may vary based on qualifications and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promote Operational Excellence and 6S initiatives by maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
  • Perform safe operation of all material moving/handling equipment.
  • Support the QMS system by ensuring compliance with applicable regulations through proper documentation and record keeping.
  • Follow all QS/ISO requirements for working in a clean room.
  • Promote, support and participate in idea creation for new processes and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs and facilitate greater utilization of labor and resources.
  • Promote and adhere to the workplace core values of Advanced Molding Technologies.
  • Participates in design for manufacturing (DFM) sessions with customers, providing expertise in materials, injection molding processing, and molding simulations.
  • Provides technical support for new quoting opportunities utilizing simulation software for estimating press size, gate size, runner size, and cycle time and providing guidance with regard to cavity pressure sensors, conformal cooling, and other technologies.
  • Work with Master Planner/Scheduler on new tool sampling dates.
  • Participates in mold design reviews providing input for design improvements related to specific material characteristics, runner design, runner size, gate size, cooling, etc. focused on achieving an optimized process.
  • Provides technical support for new molding development projects and resolving production processing issues.
  • Responsible for molding process development activities for all new molding projects with ownership of Molding Process Development Workbook and Master Process Sheets.
  • Support implementation of new technologies related to improved injection molding processes (cavity pressure sensors, conformal cooling, melt temperature measurement and control, coolant flow and temperature measurement, mold steel measurement, etc.)
  • Train and mentor Mold Technicians in Scientific Molding, cavity pressure equipment and software, conformal cooling, and any new technologies as they technologies as they are implemented.
  • Manage molding development activities for cross-validation.
  • Cross-function as Process Engineer and/or Manufacturing Engineer as needed.
  • Actively manage and facilitate the growth and development process of each member of the mold technician team and the collaboration between them (when direct reports are assigned to an individual in the Process Engineer role).
  • Develop and track key performance indicator (KPIs) for the mold technicians (when direct reports are assigned to an individual in the Process Engineer role).
  • Provide backup to the mold technicians by providing support and assistance as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications (Education, Training, Skills, and Experience)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience as a project, manufacturing or process engineer within the injection molding industry.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and 12485.
  • Working knowledge of robotics and automation and how to apple it to the role.
  • Working knowledge of Solid Works, Moldflow, RJG software and other current engineering software programs.
  • RJG Master Molder certification, AIM Institute PTE (Plastics Technology and Engineering) certification, AIM Molding Engineer certification, or other injection molding specialty training preferred.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products.
  • Advanced working application of root-cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentorship and training capabilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
