Overview

Deriva Energy is seeking a Traveling Wind Technician to join our team.

Responsibilities
  • Always maintain a high level of safety awareness
  • Climb heights 300 ft. and greater several times daily
  • Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines related to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Perform troubleshooting to identify root causes and take corrective actions or open a service case with the equipment manufacturer
  • Perform energy isolation in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out procedures
  • Perform pad mounted transformer switching in accordance with all Hazardous Energy Controls procedures
  • Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines
  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring and evaluation
  • Maintain all aspects (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil) of turbines in a safe, high quality, and efficient manner
  • Maintain EH&S documentation and complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary) within Maximo
Basic Qualifications

Wind Technician - Level I

  • High School/GED
  • GWO Basic Safety Training
  • GWO Basic Technical Training
  • SGTT
    - Siemens Gamesa Technical Training
  • In addition to the High School/GED requirement, the ability to complete Level I job performance measures and training within 1 year

Wind Technician - Level II

  • High School/GED
  • GWO Basic Safety Training
  • GWO Basic Technical Training
  • SGTT
    - Siemens Gamesa Technical Training
  • External Candidates: (3+) years of related work experience. Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs within the probationary period.
  • Internal Candidates: (1+) year of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician. Must also have Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator-1 JPM Completed.
Desired Qualifications
  • AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study
  • Experience with Siemens Gamesa turbines
  • SGRE maintenance technician training certification
  • SGRE troubleshooting technical training certification
  • SGRE commissioning technician training certification
  • Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies
  • High voltage and substation maintenance experience
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
  • Competent with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems
  • Microsoft Office including Excel/Word/Power Point
  • CPR and AED Training Certification
  • TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training
  • Forklift certified
Working Conditions
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Travel to project sites
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards
  • Exposure to noisy, dusty conditions, chemicals or solvents
  • Operate equipment including forklifts and commercial motor vehicles
  • Ability to climb and work on turbine towers with heights up to 300 ft. daily
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs individually
  • Walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolds
  • Working in all-weather outdoor conditions (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow)
  • Completion of OEM or third-party technical specialty training program
  • Must pass a background check and drug test prior to start date
  • Safe Working Weight Requirement: weight restriction of 265 pounds as an essential function of the job
