JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The In‑person STEM/STEAM Teacher delivers engaging, standards‑based instruction in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts (when applicable), and Mathematics for students in grades PreK–8. This role fosters critical thinking, creativity, problem‑solving, and environmental stewardship through differentiated, hands‑on learning experiences. The STEM/STEAM Teacher collaborates with grade‑level teams, specialists, and school leadership to promote student success and uphold the mission of Crosslake Community School.

STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT & EXPERIENCE IMPACT

This position supports our strategic directions and contributes to creating positive daily experiences by:

For Students:

  • Providing engaging, standards‑aligned STEM/STEAM instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners and promotes academic growth across PreK–8
  • Delivering meaningful, hands‑on learning experiences that build environmental literacy, scientific inquiry, and higher‑order thinking
  • Creating a supportive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued and motivated to succeed

For Staff & Community:

  • Collaborating with colleagues to align curriculum, share best practices, and support cross‑curricular integration, including environmental education
  • Maintaining open, consistent communication with families and contributing to a positive, mission‑driven school culture
  • Partnering with external organizations such as Sourcewell, Resource Training and Solutions, Osprey Wilds, and other educational agencies to enhance programming

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction & Curriculum:

  • Deliver high‑quality, standards‑aligned STEM/STEAM instruction for students in grades PreK–8, including students receiving special education services, to promote critical thinking and content mastery
  • Provide instruction and specialist coverage in Science, Technology, Engineering, Environmental Education, Mathematics, and (where applicable) the Arts
  • Discover, create, and teach units of instruction aligned to Minnesota academic standards in STEM/STEAM content areas
  • Design and deliver age‑appropriate lessons incorporating auditory, kinesthetic, and visual learning modalities
  • Teach and enable students to engage in higher‑level thinking, problem‑solving, collaboration, creativity, and educational risk‑taking
  • Integrate technology creatively and effectively into instruction, maintaining a growth mindset toward emerging tools and practices, including AI‑informed teaching
  • Adhere to Minnesota state standards as designed by MDE

Assessment & Data:

  • Assess and monitor student learning outcomes using formative and summative measures to inform instructional decisions and ensure alignment with Minnesota state standards
  • Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date student records and grades in the school platform, ensuring timely feedback and transparency with students and families

Collaboration & School Culture:

  • Collaborate with grade‑level teams and school staff to align instructional plans, share strategies, and support school‑wide initiatives such as Environmental Education, MnMTSS, Catalyst, Responsive Classroom, and Q‑Comp
  • Contribute to school culture and community building by actively supervising or serving on at least one club or committee
  • Collaborate with external partners including Sourcewell, Resource Training and Solutions, Osprey Wilds, and other educational organizations
