The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology for the 2026-27 academic year with the possibility of renewal. We are seeking candidates with a PhD in sociology who have a demonstrated commitment to teaching a diverse undergraduate student body in a residential liberal arts setting. Candidates who have substantially completed a PhD may also be considered.
Area of specialization is open but preference will be given to those with experience teaching social theory and introduction to sociology. Carleton College operates on a trimester calendar, and the position entails teaching six courses over three ten-week terms. The expected starting salary range for this position is between $73,800 - $78,690. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
