Responsibilities
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the District approved curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records in a timely fashion, prepare progress reports.
  • Identify pupil needs and make appropriate referrals and develop strategies for individual learning plans for students who require curriculum adaptation.
  • Maintain a professional day, as defined by building/and contract.
  • Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of Schoology, newsletters, phone calls, emails, conferences, etc.
  • Work in a supportive and collaborative manner with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Maintain and improve professional skills by participating in building and department meetings, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars to stay current with best teaching practices.
  • Participate in a professional learning community on a regular basis.
  • Integrate technology into instruction.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide ongoing in‑classroom instruction using strategies including clustering, flexible grouping, curriculum compacting, and critical thinking skills development.
  • Develop content‑based classroom materials around thematic units of study.
  • Coordinate ongoing in‑depth investigations with students.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents, developing parental support groups such as S.E.N.G. (Social and Emotional Needs Group).
  • Participate in admissions process for identifying potential applicants.
  • Develop and administer ongoing diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments for students.
  • Collaborate in a fast‑paced environment interacting with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community with multiple requests and concerns.
  • Respond in emergency situations.
  • Know, interpret, and follow school District policies.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Provide input to the goal‑setting process for paraprofessionals.
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Demonstrated ability to apply appropriate skills in performing daily routines.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate a computer, software, and necessary classroom technology.
    • Ability to develop effective and positive working relationships with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community.
    • Maintain professional composure while dealing with a variety of personalities and situations.
    • Show initiative and function as a self‑starter.
    • Effectively communicate and have interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public, sufficient to exchange or convey information and receive work direction.
