.50 Physical Education/DAPE Teacher

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students’ physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; to develop students’ understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well‑being; and to motivate students to work towards personal fitness, hygiene, and good health.

Essential Functions
  • Develop and administer Physical Education classes consistent with district goals and objectives.
  • Teach knowledge of and develop skills in physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sport.
  • Develop students’ concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and social skills; provide a safe and optimal learning environment and appropriate feedback on progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student growth and modify instruction to meet individual needs, including special‑needs students.
  • Continuously acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, and research.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting of all student activities, achievement and attendance per district procedures and law.
  • Assist in coordinating extra‑curricular activities, including student performances, assemblies, and athletic events.
  • Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies, establishing a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Coordinate with other staff, especially within Physical Education and grade level, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition instructional aids, supplies, and equipment and maintain inventory records.
  • Inspect equipment and field areas for safety and functionality.
Additional Duties

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment and Travel Requirements

Uses standard office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travels to district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current Physical Education instructional methods, including differentiated instruction based on learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding education and students, including those related to health education.
  • Knowledge of physiology, health and nutrition, biology, anatomy, hygiene, exercise, and methods to promote physical and mental well‑being.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self‑evaluation concerning performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others involved in the work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile
  • State certification as a Physical Education Teacher.
  • State certification as a Health Teacher preferred.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
  • FLSA status:
    Exempt.
