Inventory Control Specialist (Stockkeeper) – How Your Work ContributesThe role is responsible for the receipt, storage and issuance of supplies, parts and materials to all Metro Transit departments and facilities. Follow established methods and procedures in requisitioning, receipt, issuance, storage and inventory of materials, supplies and equipment to maintain the integrity of Metro Transit's inventory system. The position may involve heavy lifting and requires readiness to work days, evenings, nights and weekends at multiple locations as the work shift and location is bid on a seniority basis.
Responsibilities- Maintain an organized and efficient warehouse/stockroom by tracking and counting inventory, picking, putting away and storing stock, labeling product and storage locations, storing hazardous material and waste, and safely operating MHE.
- Ensure material received is accurately inventoried against packing lists or labels; receive IAW hazardous materials law; identify high priority deliveries for appropriate action.
- Ensure materials are properly issued using interface tools such as radio frequency scanners, reference parts manuals, vendor websites, and the material management system(s); identify inventory levels and special handling requirements.
- Safely operate hand or automated equipment used in labeling, transport and storage; may operate a box truck for pick-up or delivery of materials and supplies.
- Perform other inventory related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least two years of verifiable work experience in each of the following areas:
Mechanical, electro‑mechanical, computer parts inventory or related products (e.g., car/truck parts, medical devices, circuit boards). - Experience using an inventory management program in the last 10 years (e.g., SAP, Maximo, Infor).
- Direct customer service experience in a retail or wholesale environment.
This posting is open continuously and will establish a six‑month candidate pool for present and future openings.
License Requirements- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Forklift certification obtained within six (6) months of hire/transfer and maintained thereafter.
- Lifting up to twenty‑five (25) pounds; may lift fifty (50) pounds and may also be required to lift more than 100 pounds with assistance.
- General knowledge of inventory management practices, including ordering, receipt, storage, requisitioning, inventory, and issuance.
- Ability to safely operate Metro Transit vehicles and equipment (trucks, forklifts, hand trucks, electric carts, chain hoists).
- Perform duties under general supervision; work effectively in a team; read, comprehend and reference parts manuals; follow detailed instructions; keep accurate records; fill requisitions timely and accurately.
- Employ positive customer service skills, maintain punctuality, neat appearance, and execute procedures with accuracy and courtesy.
- Work various shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends) and locations; all shifts and locations are bid by seniority.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Utilize an inventory management program and basic Microsoft Office suite; access electronic parts manuals and related systems.
- Maintain attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
