SUMMARYUnder general supervision, performs troubleshooting and maintenance of school bus GPS hardware and equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Supports Bus Drivers with mobile data terminal use (MDT).
- Troubleshoot mobile data terminals and GPS hardware.
- Initiates and tracks Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process.
- Monitors MPS and contract driver compliance and reports noncompliance to management.
- Coordinates GPS and radio equipment installs, swaps, etc.
- Coordinates route changes with scheduling.
- Maintains data updated in the GPS portal.
- Manages and distributes driver IDs.
- Assists in training work crews in proper equipment operation and safety standards.
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance of equipment as required.
- Maintains inventory of parts and supplies; orders materials as needed.
- Maintains records of activities, equipment, and system performance.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
- Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records, and MPS information.
- Other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND two (2) years of demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by Human Resources.
Knowledge of- Automotive electrical accessory systems.
- Local, state, and Federal safety rules and regulations.
- Techniques, tools, and equipment used in equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Operation, maintenance, repair, and safety standards for motorized equipment.
- Safe work practices, occupational hazards, and safety precautions in a production facility.
- Principles of record keeping and records management.
- Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Identifying and evaluating unsafe conditions and mechanical problems.
- Repairing, calibrating, and maintaining electromechanical equipment and components.
- Making operating adjustments and repairs to mechanical equipment.
- Prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
- Promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
- Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENTWork is performed in a commercial fleet maintenance facility; moderate physical requirements; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed including use of safety equipment; a job in this category may require walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and ability to frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Eligibility for the position is based on passing the required pre-placement exam.
