Position: Associate Director of Football Performance

About the Job

Under the direction of the Head Coach Strength and Conditioning for Football, assist in the supervision and management of the day-to-day operations of the Football Strength and Conditioning program. Strict compliance with the rules and regulations governing the recruitment of student athletes, and intercollegiate athletic competition per University, Big Ten, and NCAA rules and regulations. Assist in the preparation of student-athletes for each game and each season with dedication to attain maximum athletic performance and to compete against major college competition.

Duties

80% OF TIME:

  • Coordinate and prepare a comprehensive program, teach, demonstrate, and supervise proper techniques for strength, speed, conditioning, and flexibility exercises within the program, and maintain a safe and positive training environment.
  • Coordinate and design speed development program for football student-athletes.
  • Collaborate with staff in the design of individually designed weight training programs for student-athletes.
  • Instructing and monitoring student-athletes in weight training, speed, and conditioning workouts.
  • Work closely with medical and athletic training staff to integrate injured athletes safely and effectively into the strength and conditioning program and assist in the coordinated efforts to maximize participation while minimizing risk and injury. Offer suggestions regarding workouts, exercises, and periodization that balance risk-reward parameters in the pursuit of performance excellence.
  • Teach and mentor student-athletes and staff on the knowledge and understanding of strength and conditioning.
  • Be available to actively participate in the recruiting process in an effort to secure the best possible student-athletes for the Program and University.

10% OF TIME:

  • Assist in the overall supervision of weight room facilities including ensuring proper maintenance of equipment and monitoring compliance with safety procedures.

10% OF TIME:

  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of, and adhere to, NCAA rules related specifically to the on-going performance of duties within an NCAA Division I program.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends, practices and techniques related to strength and conditioning programming.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned.

Other responsibilities may include:

Participate in fundraising, alumni, public relations and media events as requested or deemed appropriate in an effort to improve relations, increase fundraising, and maintain a positive image of the Gophers and the University. Work in cooperation with, and support of, the University s administrators and faculty to ensure the quality of a well-rounded student-athlete experience resulting in student athletes  academic requirements being satisfied, leading to graduation.

Be fair, sympathetic and protective of the student athletes while upholding academic and moral integrity.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate effectiveness in recruiting, training, coaching, evaluating, and supervising student athletes to attain their maximum level of academic and athletic performance and to compete successfully against major college competition in a quality Program.
  • A bachelor s degree with 3-5 years of Football strength coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA Division I or NFL level.
  • Certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) as certified by the NSCA or CSCCa.

Desired

Qualifications:

  • A Master s level degree is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with Speed Development training.
  • Former head strength and conditioning experience
  • Football strength coaching experience in Big Ten Conference
