Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – 2nd Shift Overview

Fleet Services by Cox Automotive, headquartered in Indianapolis, is a leading provider of mobile fleet maintenance and repair. We are hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II for on‑site services across the country.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment (electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fans, clutch, transmissions, etc.).
  • Diagnose and repair various truck systems (electrical, hydraulic, electronic, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, etc.), using handheld instruments and test gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to verify proper operation.
  • Manage parts inventory and reconcile usage on company‑issued service truck.
  • Maintain and operate service vehicle, conduct safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Document work on Repair Orders, upload pictures via the TRAIT app, and complete DOT and other required forms.
  • Work independently, schedule daily activities, and prioritize tasks to meet productivity targets.
  • Communicate with management and support teams for repair estimates and purchase order discussions.
  • Follow safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related experience (may substitute higher education or 5 years of experience).
  • Set of hand tools required for role.
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical or valid DOT medical card (≥ 4 months validity) before start.
  • 21 years or older, valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain Driver Qualification File.

  • ASE T5 (Suspension)
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
  • ASE T7 (HVAC)
  • ASE 608/609 (Axles/Machinery)

  • Problem‑solving and decision‑making using new information.
  • Physical stamina for lifting, bending, climbing, standing and walking for long periods with moderate heavy labor.
  • Effective two‑way communication with clients and team members.
  • Judicious selection of tools and equipment.
  • Spatial awareness and ability to judge distances.
  • Logical reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions.

Compensation

Hourly base pay: $28.70 – $43.03 per hour. Pay may vary based on location and candidate qualifications and may include additional commission or incentive programs.
