The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The technician can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, and continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. A successful technician complies with all company policies and achieves high‑level performance metrics.
DUTIES- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Manage parts inventory and reconcile inventory on the company‑issued service truck.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Work with customers to assess needs, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload pictures and findings on Repair Orders using the TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation.
- Work independently, managing daily schedule and maintaining a high level of productivity within standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- High School Diploma or GED and 3‑years’ experience in a related field. Candidates with alternative education or 5 years’ experience may also be considered.
- Provide a set of hand tools required for job duties.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months of hire.
- Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical.
