Position Purpose

The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for driving incremental sales growth and profitability through account relationships, specifically focusing on new business development. During this role, the OSR will monitor key performance indicators for assigned professional customers and strive to meet or exceed financial performance targets by working closely with the Outside Sales Director and Pro Sales Manager. The OSR reviews pertinent Pro customer satisfaction results to understand customers' perspectives and leverages this information to drive local decisions and strategies that improve competitive positioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • 10%
    - Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    Participate in district and regional meetings as needed. Communicate weekly activity updates with Pro Sales Manager.
  • 60% - Cultivate Net New Sales Relationships:
    Drive incremental sales growth by building relationships with assigned customer portfolios, prospecting new business, and handling end-to-end quoting, ordering, and transaction experiences. Utilize local community events to continuously represent The Home Depot Pro brand and drive new business. Sell all enterprise products and services, including Commercial Credit options, Volume Pricing Program, delivery, in-store pickup, and website ordering. Establish effective partnerships with assigned customers by completing a minimum of 10 sales call appointments per week, develop strategies focused on expanding the customer base within the defined sales territory, and produce new account revenue aligned with organizational targets.
  • 10% - Customer Relationship Management:
    Use Salesforce to plan future sales call activity, manage ongoing customer communications, and maintain a healthy sales pipeline.
  • 20% - Sales Prospecting:
    Conduct initial customer meetings, build relationships, and sell The Home Depot value proposition. Prospect new business leveraging leads provided by the internal Sales Development team as well as leads generated in the field through existing customer relationships, stores, and community contacts.

Travel Requirements
  • Typically requires overnight travel 20% to 50% of the time.
Physical Requirements
  • Most of the time is spent sitting, standing, or walking. There is a requirement to lift or handle material or equipment of moderate weight (8‑20 pounds).
Working Conditions
  • Typically performed in a comfortable environment but frequently exposed to factors such as extreme temperatures, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes that can cause discomfort or moderate risk of accident or illness.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least eighteen years old.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Five years of professional work experience.
  • Two years of account management/sales management experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in the home improvement or home building industry.
  • Successful professional growth in a high‑paced retail environment.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Demonstrates a strong ability to create and cultivate an active network of relationships both inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to leverage relationships to accomplish sales and profitability goals.
  • Deep understanding of Pro customer needs with a focus on fulfilling 100% of their product, credit, and performance requirements.
  • Determines how each customer would prefer to be served and tailors communications and customer‑facing activities accordingly.
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills; ability to persuade or influence others.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written) and ability to communicate globally.
