Summary

The Therapeutic Area Specialist is a critical, field‑based role that engages healthcare providers to drive adoption of new and existing BMS medicines for the appropriate patients.

Responsibilities
  • Drive demand for BMS medicines, engaging HCPs with a differentiated customer experience and deep scientific dialogue.
  • Build and sustain professional credibility with regional thought leaders and community physicians.
  • Liaise with other BMS functions to deliver a higher customer experience, prioritizing product safety, appropriate use, and business performance.
Portfolio Promotion
  • Promote approved indications within a defined territory to meet or exceed sales targets in a compliant manner.
  • Create demand by articulating the clinical and scientific rationale for product use.
  • Maintain deep scientific expertise and prepare comprehensive territory and account plans.
  • Use available tools (e.g., CE^3) to derive insights and inform call plans, providing feedback to leadership.
Fair & Balanced Scientific Dialogue
  • Present accurate, scientifically rigorous information to HCPs, ensuring medical accuracy.
  • Conduct in‑office presentations and discuss product‑related science consistently with the label.
  • Organize external speaker programs using approved Speakers Bureau listings.
  • Maintain expertise on emerging data and engage real‑time medical support through Medical on Call.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with field teams to provide the best customer experience.
  • Share relevant insights internally to improve customer service.
  • Comply with all laws, regulations, and BMS policies governing conduct.
Qualifications
  • Advanced scientific degree and/or 5+ years of pharmaceutical/biotechnology experience in healthcare sales, MSL, or HCP roles.
  • Experience in psychiatry preferred.
  • Strong communication of scientific data to physicians.
  • Credibility with key customers and stakeholder networks, with a customer‑centric mindset.
  • Account management skills, superior selling competencies, and a proven track record of meeting/exceeding sales goals.
  • Effective cross‑functional teamwork and a positive can‑do attitude.
  • Strong selling and promotional skills demonstrated through performance metrics.

Compensation Overview

Field – United States – US: $135,180 – $163,801. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available.
