Job Overview

The Vascular Access RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for NICU, pediatric, and adult patient populations. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
This position will be working 64 hours every two weeks on the evening shift and every third weekend, some day shifts are required.
- Assesses patient for proper vascular access placement, in pediatric and adult patients and according to UMMC, Fairview selection criteria
- Capable of placing complex peripheral IV lines in all patient populations, NICU through Adult.
- Competent in use of Ultrasound and other technologies for IV placement, NICU through Adult
- Competent in assessment, treatment, and removal of VAD sites for all complications i.e.: infiltration, phlebitis, infection, extravasation, thrombosis, precipitates, malposition, occlusion
- Competent in the placement of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters and Midlines, NICU through adult
- Competent in the care and maintenance of all peripheral and central venous catheters i.e.: midlines, PICC, CVC, Implanted Devices, Dialysis catheters, and intracardiac lines
- Performs phlebotomy support
- Can perform and act as consultant to other health care team members in coordinating nursing interventions regarding the placement, maintenance and troubleshooting of all VAD’s.
Required Qualifications:
- MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
- Vascular Access Experience
- Strong Traditional PIV placement experience in all age groups, NICU through Adult
- Ultrasound Guided PIV placement experience in all age groups, NICU through Adult
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing
- PICC/Midline Placement Experience in all ages
- National Certification in Vascular Access

CompensationThe posted compensation range corresponds to the minimum and maximum pay rates outlined in your union agreement for the respective job classifications at the time of job posting. An individual s pay rate within this range may be influenced by various factors, including FTE, skills, knowledge, educational background, and qualifying experience as specified in the contract. If your role is eligible for a sign-on bonus, the bonus program that is approved and in place at the time of offer, is what will be honored.
