Job Overview
The University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank Campus is looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking Registered Nurse to join our Cardiac Med/Surg IMC unit! Are you ready to join our team?
Our 38-bed unit cares for patients with a wide variety of heart conditions, heart and lung transplants, VADs, heart failure, and rhythm issues.
This position is working 48 hours every two weeks (.6
FTE) on the overnight shift (7:00pm-7:30am), working 12 hour shifts and works every third weekend.
- We have a 38-bed capacity.
- Common patient populations include, but are not limited to: post-op heart and lung transplants, adult congenital heart defects, advanced pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, LVADs, sepsis, end‑stage organ failure, cardiac complications, titratable cardiac drips, and cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries.
- The nurse patient ratio is a mix of 1:2 and 1:3 on all shifts.

- We are looking for a nurse who is eager to learn new skills, has a high level of communication and critical thinking, and who is prepared for high levels of acuity.
- Assessing patient needs and identifying expected nursing outcomes.
- Developing an individualized nursing plan of care.
- Implementing interventions as needed during treatment based on the plan of care.
- Critical medication management.
- Evaluating care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
- Using communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes.
- Coordinating care with members of the health care team and delegating responsibilities to others as appropriate.
- Demonstrating the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways, and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
- Promoting a culture of evidence based practice (EBP) by participating in a multitude of available opportunities.
- Performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.
- BLS required
- MN RN license
- AD required
- BSN or higher preferred
- ACLS (available to become certified in this position)
- Certification in related specialty is helpful
- One year of current medical/surgical RN experience in a hospital setting is strongly desired
