Psychiatric Associate - Adolescent and Child Mental Health

We at Fairview are looking for a dedicated Psychiatric Associate to join the Riverside side location on the University of Minnesota Campus. 7A is a 13 bed unit serving children and adolescents ages 10-18, all single occupancy. We provide options for groups and encourage patients to attend OT, TR and other therapeutic groups.

Many patients arrive subdued and depressed; some arrive decompensated and manic. There are strict safety guidelines on the unit. 7A is a dynamic place to work with strong Unit Council led by frontline staff. We are working on encouraging more group participation on 7A and developing programming individualized to patient needs.

This role is approved for 64 hours, every two weeks on the evening shift, 8-hour shifts, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM and every other weekend with a variable schedule. This position is SEIU benefit eligible. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; PTO and 403B with potential employer match.

The Psychiatric Associate is responsible for the delivery of patient care and promotion of a therapeutic environment as delegated by and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse to achieve goals of treatment on each unit as assigned.

• Conducts safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.
• Conducts room, belonging and unit searches.
• Responds and participates in de-escalation of patient including physical intervention as trained.
• Actively participates in milieu management with treatment team collaboration.
• Performs basic patient daily living routines and procedures according to treatment plan.
• Demonstrates knowledge of signs/symptoms of diagnoses and interventions.
• Conducts educational programming with individual and/or patient groups according to appropriate treatment plan.
• Responds to emergency situations as trained per policy.
• Participates in the treatment team’s mission, goals and plans; acts as a member of the multi-disciplinary therapeutic team.
• Exhibits verbal communication in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.
• Possesses knowledge of current issues, changes and updates in Behavioral Services policies and procedures.

• Bachelor of Arts
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association, Red Cross)

• Bachelor of Arts in Human Services Field
• Experience working with behavioral patients

The posted compensation range corresponds to the minimum and maximum pay rates outlined in your union agreement for the respective job classifications at the time of job posting.
