We at Fairview are looking for a dedicated Psychiatric Associate to join the Riverside side location on the University of Minnesota Campus. 7A is a 13 bed unit that serves children and adolescents ages 10-18, all single occupancy. We provide options for groups and encourage patients to attend OT, TR and other therapeutic groups. Many patients arrive subdued and depressed, while others arrive decompensated and manic.
There are strict guidelines on the unit to ensure safety. 7A is a fun place to work and staff often participate with patients. We have a strong Unit Council led by frontline staff and are looking to increase group participation and develop programming that is individualized to patient needs.
This role is approved for 64 hours, every two weeks on the evening shift, working 8-hour shifts from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM with every other weekend and a variable schedule. This position is SEIU benefit eligible. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, PTO, and 403B with potential employer contribution match.
Responsibilities- Deliver patient care and promote a therapeutic environment under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
- Conduct safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.
- Conduct room, belonging and unit searches.
- Respond to and participate in de-escalation of patients, including physical intervention as trained.
- Actively participate in milieu management with treatment team collaboration.
- Perform basic patient daily living routines and procedures according to the treatment plan.
- Demonstrate knowledge of signs/symptoms of diagnoses and interventions.
- Conduct educational programming with individuals and/or patient groups according to the treatment plan.
- Respond to emergency situations as trained per policy.
- Participate in the treatment team’s mission, goals and plans; act as a member of the multi-disciplinary therapeutic team.
- Exhibit verbal communication in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.
- Maintain knowledge of current issues, changes and updates in Behavioral Services policies and procedures.
- Bachelor of Arts
- Basic Life Support (American Heart Association, Red Cross)
- Bachelor of Arts in Human Services Field
- Experience working with behavioral patients
