Job Description ABOUT DSGSH

Don’t Shoot Guns, Shoot Hoops (DSGSH) is a nonprofit founded in 2022, dedicated to preventing gun violence by helping inner-city youth heal from trauma through basketball. Webuild strong personal connections with young individuals to address the root causes of violence and promote life skills essential for their growth. Supported by respected community members, DSGSH fosters open discussions to shift societal norms around firearm use and conflict resolution.

Role Overview

We are seeking passionate, committed individuals to join our Board of Directors. Board Members play a critical role in governance, strategic direction, fundraising support, and overall organizational sustainability. We have several open board seats and are looking to fill them as soon as possible.

Responsibilities
  • Provide governance, oversight, and strategic guidance to support the organization’s mission
  • Attend and actively participate in board meetings and committees
  • Support fundraising efforts, grant development, and community partnerships
  • Serve as an ambassador for Don’t Shoot Guns, Shoot Hoops within the community
  • Ensure the organization operates ethically, legally, and in alignment with its mission
  • Contribute professional expertise (e.g., nonprofit leadership, finance, legal, education, public safety, advocacy, marketing, or community organizing)
Requirements Ideal Candidates
  • Strong commitment to youth development, violence prevention, and victim advocacy
  • Willingness to actively engage and contribute time and expertise
  • Experience in nonprofit leadership, community work, business, education, public service, or related fields is a plus
  • Ability to collaborate and make decisions in the best interest of the organization
  • Prior board experience helpful but not required
