Job Description & How to Apply Below

Children’s Cancer Research Fund is a national nonprofit dedicated to ending childhood cancer. We fund transformational research with the greatest potential to bring better, safer treatments and cures to children with cancer. Our approach is unique – we fund research across the country, not just at one hospital or institution, and our funding priorities address health disparities, aggressive and relapsed cancers, and long-term health after cancer.

We also help kids and families find community and amplify their stories as they navigate the difficult experience of cancer treatment and survivorship.

Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF) has grown its base of supporters significantly in recent years through the expansion of national childhood cancer research funding. As such, CCRF is poised to capitalize on this growth and create opportunities in its mid-level donor segment, which is the bridge to the major and planned giving programs. The organization invites applications for a Development Officer, to serve the needs of an expanding group of supporters who desire a deeper level of engagement with CCRF’s mission.

The Development Officer will be a key member of the organization’s Development team, responsible for actively cultivating, securing, and stewarding mid-level gifts of $1,000-$9,999.

The primary goal of this position is to acquire, retain, and increase giving from individual donors as well as manage fundraising campaigns geared to mid-level donors. Success will be measured on metrics to be established annually in coordination with the Director of Development, Individual Giving, specifically targeting the following performance measures: percentage of donors within the mid-level giving program increasing their support year-over year, year-over-year retention of donors within the program, number of meaningful touchpoints and engagement with donors within the program, number of households qualified and passed up to the Major Gifts team for additional cultivation, and overall revenue production.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. While this role is posted as remote, preference will be given to candidates located in the Twin Cities. If a Twin Cities–based candidate is hired, they will be required to work out of our Minneapolis office two days per week.

Responsibilities of this role:
  • Learns CCRF’s mission and effectively communicates the mission and programs to donors.
  • Cultivates donor relationships by updating donors on the impact of their support, creating opportunities to grow their relationship with CCRF’s mission, and inviting donors to deepen their partnership with CCRF.
  • Works with the Development team to understand the current program, identify opportunities for growth, and develops strategies to achieve that growth.
  • Partners with Direct Marketing, Stewardship, and Major Gifts staff to ensure each team complements the others’ efforts.
  • Collaborates across the organization to leverage and integrate mid-level program strategies into CCRF’s events, social media, direct mail, community fundraising and other outreach efforts.
  • Manages a portfolio of 400 – 600 donors, helping donors achieve their philanthropic goals.
  • Executes strategy primarily through phone, email, and mail communication, with the possibility of face-to-face visits to select donors for cultivation, solicitations, and stewardship efforts.
  • Solicits and closes gifts of $1,000-$9,999 from individual donors.
  • Maintains stewardship contacts with donors; adheres to the highest ethical standards; demonstrates empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflects an optimistic and positive attitude, and conveys sensitivity to needs of CCRF’s donors.
  • Updates the database with call notes and interactions with donors and prospects.
  • Identifies and promotes hand-off of high-capacity donors to the Major Gift program, as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 1+ years of experience in non-profit fundraising, or any equivalent combination of experience and education
  • The ability and/or proven evidence of the ability to:
  • Communicate at an advanced level, oral and written
  • Exhibit strong phone skills, for example: warm tone, good speaking…
