Position: Vice President of National Advancement

Position

Vice President of National Advancement plays a key role in leading the strategic planning, execution, and management of all aspects of philanthropic, individual, and government fundraising for Artspace’s projects and the organization overall. This position plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization's commitment to creating a affordable, inclusive, and sustainable housing options for diverse communities. This role involves Project Leadership, Artspace Team Leadership, and Departmental Leadership, incorporating a diverse set of responsibilities aimed at creating sustainable and accessible housing options for individuals and communities with varying income levels.

Occasional travel to Artspace’s properties and donor meetings will be necessary for this role.

Organizational Overview

Artspace Projects, Inc. is a nonprofit real estate organization specializing in creating, owning, and operating affordable spaces for artists, creators, and creative entrepreneurs. These spaces include workforce housing, live/work apartments for artists and their families, working artist studios, arts centers, space for arts-friendly businesses, and other projects. Artspace’s mission is to create, foster, and preserve affordable and sustainable housing and workspace for artists, entrepreneurs and the creative workforce.

At the present, Artspace owns and operates some 57 projects across the country, with more on the way. Most are live/work or mixed‑use buildings comprised of more than 2,000 residential units. Artspace’s portfolio is rounded out with non‑residential projects that provide space for artists and cultural organizations. Artspace focuses their efforts on 3 key areas: property development, consulting, and property stewardship.

Primary

Responsibilities National Advancement Strategy
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy at both the organizational and project levels, ensuring full alignment with Artspace’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Evaluate funding opportunities and potential donors based on feasibility, financial impact, and mission alignment to expand the organization’s prospect pipeline.
Project Leadership
  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising plans that include prospect research, campaign development, and donor pipeline expansion.
  • Lead the grant acquisition process, coordinating the drafting and submission of competitive proposals to public and private funding bodies.
  • Build and maintain a robust network of community partners and philanthropic stakeholders to support long‑term organizational sustainability.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental collaboration to streamline financial documentation, impact presentations, and large‑scale donor recognition projects.
  • Manage post‑award activities, including grant reporting, outcome data analysis, and ensuring strict adherence to contractual obligations.
Financial Management
  • Manage fundraising aspects of affordable housing developments, including budget creation, sophisticated financial modeling, and the layering of diverse funding sources such as LIHTC (tax credits), government grants, and private financing.
  • Liaise with the Finance Department to ensure all project‑level fundraising and capital stacks are structured to support Artspace’s overall fiscal health and long‑term sustainability.
Partnership Building and Community Engagement
  • Cultivate and steward high‑priority relationships with foundations, national advancement committees, and government agencies to ensure sustained funding alignment with community‑driven needs.
  • Orchestrate partner collaborations to secure capital, navigate complex regulatory landscapes, and leverage shared resources to drive project success.
  • Serve as a key organizational ambassador at industry conferences and foundation summits to broaden professional networks and elevate the organization’s national profile.
Leadership and Team Management
  • Provide strategic oversight to the National Advancement team, ensuring a cohesive and inclusive approach to achieving organizational milestones.
