Overview

The Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance is a statewide nonprofit, founded in 1999, dedicated to supporting all those impacted by ovarian cancer, funding research, educating the public and health care community, and raising awareness.

MOCA is seeking a Communications & Community Engagement Coordinator to support and enhance communications, marketing and community outreach efforts, to maximize engagement and impact. The person in this role will help implement various communication initiatives and offer a wide range of project support to the Communications & Marketing Director and the Program Director. The Communications & Community Engagement Coordinator will have significant interaction with the MOCA community and must represent MOCA professionally, with a strong focus on MOCA’s mission, programs, services, events, and support for those impacted by ovarian cancer.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Build a solid understanding of ovarian cancer, MOCA’s mission, and the members of our community, including survivors, family members, caregivers, health care providers, researchers and supporters.
  • Ensure communications consistently and accurately reflect MOCA’s mission, values and voice.
  • Create dynamic, mission-focused content for MOCA’s digital channels, including drafting multiple weekly eBlasts, a monthly eNewsletter and updating MOCA’s website content.
  • Draft engaging, appropriate and accurate content for MOCA’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, X, Linked In and Tik Tok) and measure basic engagement.
  • Support the Communications & Marketing Director with the development of printed materials, digital communications, event programs, and presentations.
  • Assist in annual fundraising communications and draft online and mobile messages for giving campaigns.
  • Work collaboratively with MOCA staff, board, volunteers and interns; stay updated on MOCA initiatives, team goals and staff projects; gather facts and information about key events and updates from MOCA community members including staff, board and volunteers.
  • Assist with coordinating media outreach and contacting members of the media; provide occasional support to MOCA representatives during media opportunities and act as a liaison between MOCA and the media.
  • Draft and edit marketing materials for informational pieces, educational materials, event-related marketing pieces and other items as assigned; assist in the coordination of speaker appearances and communications volunteer needs at MOCA events; track and log community engagement with MOCA’s digital communications.
  • Manage community outreach efforts, with direction from the Program Director, to expand and diversify MOCA’s network; coordinate MOCA awareness opportunities such as health fairs and community events, including volunteer and material management.
  • Train and support volunteers to represent MOCA at outreach events, ensuring they are equipped with key messaging and materials.
  • Assist in outreach and build partnerships with health care systems, providers and community organizations; apply for speaking opportunities at conferences, trainings and seminars.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field.
  • Approximately 3 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations or marketing with demonstrated competency.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage duties on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience adhering to AP Style Guide or similar guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and follow through on tasks.
  • Previous nonprofit experience desired.
  • Experience with community outreach and engagement desired.
  • Commitment and sensitivity to diversity and ability to work respectfully with a wide range of coworkers, board members, and community members.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive, inclusive and collaborative team environment.
  • Software/Tools:
    Mailchimp, Canva, Adobe InDesign and Word Press experience a plus; ability to take initiative and work independently.
Additional Position Information
  • Position reports to the Communications & Marketing Director and Program Director.
  • This position is currently structured full-time, approximately 32 hours per week, in-person at the MOCA office in South Minneapolis 2 to 3 days a week (generally on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) and remotely on other days of the week. Evening and weekend hours and presence at MOCA community and educational events are required at times.
  • Salary range is $50,000-$55,000.
