About the role

The NPI Technician plays a critical role in bringing new products, processes, and materials from development into stable production. This role partners closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Program Management to execute experiments, validate new processes, and ensure smooth handoff into manufacturing. NPI Technicians support daily operations, run trials, troubleshoot issues, and provide structured feedback to accelerate learning and improve product readiness.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and stage materials for daily production runs, including sample preparation, testing, data collection, and inspection.
  • Independently perform tasks that require advanced troubleshooting and judgment for non-routing issues on equipment, workflows or processes during NPI builds.
  • Support first-article builds, engineering trials, DOE runs, and process validation activities in collaboration with lab and commercial team staff.
  • Partner with engineers to identify root causes and propose improvements such as iterative adjustments to parameters, materials, or equipment configurations.
Documentation & Data Integrity
  • Learn and use database systems to monitor product build status, lab results, and production metrics.
  • Maintain accurate records of test results, build issues, and process observations to communicate findings clearly to engineering and manufacturing teams.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
  • Work with Engineering, Quality, and Operations to ensure safe, effective NPI execution.
  • Coordinate with shift technicians, operators, and engineers to stabilize early processes as they transition to production.
  • Participate in daily NPI stand-ups or readiness meetings to ensure timelines are met.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve consistency, or reduce production risk during early builds.
  • Update work instructions and reporting templates as processes mature.
  • Contribute to developing best practices for NPI handoff to manufacturing.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years experience as a Technician in production, R&D, pilot line, or NPI environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex troubleshooting and support non-routine technical issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data entry, formatting, and basic formulas.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in equipment operation, process monitoring, and technical data collection.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across functions.
Nice to have
  • Experience with advanced materials, hardware manufacturing, pilot line or scale-up environments.
  • Familiarity with DOE execution, test methods, or early-phase process definition.
  • Experience updating SOPs or documenting technical learnings.
  • Familiarity with quality principles and protocols is desired but not required.
Our pay and benefits
  • Salary: $25 - $35 hourly, depending on education, experience and skills
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Mental healthcare benefits
  • 401k plan with 6% company match
  • Paid time off to take time for what you need in life
  • Experience in a fun, high-performing, manufacturing environment set to change the world
