AboutThe Role
As a Finishing / Coating Technician, you will support the development, optimization, and scaling of coating and surface finishing processes for advanced magnetic materials. This role is hands‑on and process‑driven, with responsibility for surface preparation, coating application, post‑process handling, and supporting inspection to ensure coating quality and performance.
What You’ll Do Coating & Surface Finishing (Primary Focus)- Perform surface preparation of magnets and assemblies, including cleaning, taping, and fixturing.
- Apply coating (spray or plating processes) according to work instructions and engineering specifications.
- Prepare, mix, and handle coating and plating chemicals following safety and quality standards.
- Assist in troubleshooting coating defects, adhesion issues, and process variability.
- Assemble components using fixtures, adhesives, and specialized tools.
- Handle magnets safely during pre‑and post‑coating operations to prevent damage or contamination.
- Conduct visual and dimensional checks to verify coating coverage, thickness, and conformance.
- Use basic measurement and inspection tools to support coating process validation.
- Identify defects and communicate findings to Engineering for root cause analysis and process improvement.
- Clean and prepare magnets for coating, curing, testing, storage, or shipment.
- Package finished magnets securely according to quality and handling instructions.
- Support functional, environmental, and durability testing of coated magnets and assemblies.
- Record process parameters, coating results, and test data accurately and consistently.
- Collaborate closely with Engineers to develop, refine, and scale coating and surface finishing processes.
- Support automation and equipment integration related to coating, plating, curing, and material handling. Assist with equipment specification and integration for machining, assembly, coating, packaging, and automation processes.
- Create and update process documentation such as SOPs, work instructions, and preventative maintenance procedures.
- Adhere to and promote safety procedures in all work areas.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment at all times.
- Spray coating, plating, or surface finishing experience
- Surface prep, taping, masking, and mixing chemicals
- HS diploma or GED minimum
- 1+ years of previous spray coating or surface finishing experience preferred
- Attention to detail for defects and root cause analysis
- Experience with reliability or environmental testing (temperature, vibration, etc.)
- Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting
- Salary range: $25–$35/hour, depending on experience, education, and skills
