General Description
One of the Precision Associates core capabilities is its ability to formulate, test, mix and develop rubber compounds to meet the needs of its many varied customers. Once developed, the certifications and specifications for these compounds must be maintained. Also, the company must have quality control measures in place to verify that all rubber compound meets specifications. All of these duties are functions or the material lab, and part of the duties performed by Lab Technicians.
The Lab Technician will be primarily responsible for performing pre-approval testing of incoming product and milled batches of rubber as well as conducting testing for compound development on a periodic basis. The lab technician will assist the Lab Manager on a variety of other duties including maintaining material specifications, maintaining equipment and calibration thereof, and providing technical support to customers.
Key Duties/Responsibilities- Compounding, milling and testing new rubber compounds for customers.
- Testing and evaluating purchased polymers and master batches.
- Lot/batch testing to meet specifications.
- Running and maintaining the Rheometer.
- Keeping all compound data up to date in the computer system.
- Updating revisions to Specifications.
- Documenting adherence to internal and external material specifications and certifications
Duties & Responsibilities
- Investigate issues related to compounds reported by milling and molding departments.
- Assist Quality Assurance with compound verification and identification.
- Assist Engineering Department with validation testing for customers.
- Perform retesting of compounds according to mill room requests and management of raw ingredients.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Keep work area neat and orderly.
- Possesses basic knowledge of material science and chemistry. Rubber specific knowledge is preferred
- Proficient in calibration/measurement and test equipment.
- Computer Literate in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good math aptitude.
- Ability to prioritize duties and work independently.

Required:
- Associates Degree in a science related field, AND 3 years of previous work experience, or:
- 10 years of work experience with focus on material sciences
- Desired:
Bachelor Degree in a science related field - Work experience in manufacturing
- Experience with material/product compliance with Reach/ROHS, FDA, 3A, NSF regulations highly desired
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Typical office/desk type activities such as PC use
