Overview
Metropolitan Council’s Metro Transit Division is one of the country’s largest transit systems, providing service through buses, light rail and commuter trains. The Track Maintenance Supervisor (TMS) manages the Track Department’s preventative maintenance plan, coordinates with construction projects, and leads maintenance crews.
Responsibilities- Write and prioritize maintenance procedures, generate preventative cycles, and maintain accurate records.
- Lead track maintenance crews, resolve track‑related issues, and coordinate activities with other Metro Transit departments and outside agencies.
- Ensure all Metro Transit track specifications and safety policies are followed.
- Assist with design review, construction changes, and procurement of special tools and materials.
- Supervise inspection activities, provide feedback, and initiate disciplinary action as needed.
- May manage the Track Maintenance Department in the absence of the Manager.
- High school diploma and 8 years of track maintenance experience with 1 year supervisory experience, OR
- Associate’s degree and 6 years of experience with 1 year supervisory experience, OR
- Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience with 1 year supervisory experience.
Successful completion of a Metropolitan Council Leadership/Supervisory training program may substitute for supervisory experience.
Licensure Requirement- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of hire.
- Pass physical examinations, Rail Operations Rule Book, and Rail Operator Training Program.
- Experience working with a diverse workforce and communities.
- Conflict management and resolution experience.
- Stakeholder engagement and team building skills.
- Strong time management and adaptability.
- FRA Code of Federal Regulations Title 49 track safety standards.
- Inspection, maintenance, repair, installation, troubleshooting, and testing of LRT track systems.
- Safety practices and industry construction principles.
- Diagnosis and corrective action for track problems.
- Work during emergency callouts and extended overtime.
- Supervision of duties safely and efficiently in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
