The scheduled hours are flexible (5 AM - 2:30 PM or 1 - 9:30 PM). Our PM shift has a shift differential.
SUMMARYUnder general supervision, assists with cleaning and maintenance for inside and outside of MPS buildings.

Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions, but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Maintain building interior by washing, dusting, cleaning mirrors and fixtures; washing windows, counters and walls; sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing and waxing floors; cleaning and supplying lavatories; replacing light bulbs.
- Maintain building exterior by removing litter, mowing, maintaining shrubbery, edging and trimming lawns; removing snow and ice from walkways and steps.
- Assist in lifting and moving furniture, setting up portable staging, arranging classroom furnishings, and other materials.
- Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed; clean up spills and unsafe conditions in a timely manner and according to procedures.
- Follow manufacturer’s directions for the use and dilution of all chemicals and cleaning products.
- Recognize, avoid, and report unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries; report security issues and illegal activities.
- Provide customer service as needed, respond to requests, and assist co-workers, students and visitors.
- Attend seminars and training sessions as provided by management.
- Open and close facilities, set security systems; respond to emergency situations including call backs for break-ins and mechanical problems; assist with safety drills and annual cleaning duties.
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by Human Resources.
Medical Examination:
Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
- Materials and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance.
- Basic techniques and procedures used in the cleaning and maintenance of public buildings.
- Federal and state safety rules and regulations.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Techniques for use and storage of chemicals, including OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
- Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Following and maintaining safety standards.
- Following verbal and written instructions.
A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.
Physical Demands and Working EnvironmentWork is performed indoors and outdoors at MPS facilities; requires constant physical effort; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed including use of safety equipment; a job in this category may require walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and ability to frequently lift and move items weighing up to 60 pounds.
Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
