Associate Attorney – Municipal Law, Prosecution & Appeals

Overview

Smith & Johnson is hiring an Associate Attorney to join its growing public sector law practice in Minnesota, focusing on criminal prosecution, municipal law, and appellate advocacy.

• Represent government clients in misdemeanor through felony cases.
• Assist in appeals, including drafting briefs and preparing for oral arguments.
• Conduct legal research and draft legal documents such as memoranda, motions, pleadings, and ordinances.
• Attend hearings, trials, administrative proceedings, and council or board meetings as needed.

Required:

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Minnesota bar admission (or pending).
• Two to five years of relevant legal experience.
• Strong research and writing skills.
• Commitment to public service and legal excellence.

Preferred (but not required):

• Experience in criminal trial litigation and familiarity with government processes.
