Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate

Overview

Dorsey & Whitney LLP is seeking a Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate with three to five years of privacy law and privacy compliance experience in a law firm setting to join our Denver, Minneapolis, or Salt Lake City office.

• Counsel on privacy, data security, and AI compliance.
• Handle security incidents and draft privacy and security-related policies and agreements.
• Assist with privacy and security matters in transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and other commercial transactions.
• Support the privacy team within Dorsey’s Technology Commerce practice group, which provides strategic advice on complex technology transactions and compliance matters for clients across industries, from startups to multinationals.

• Advising clients on compliance with privacy and AI laws and regulations.
• Drafting privacy policies, AI policies, security-related policies and incident response plans.
• Conducting due diligence in M&A transactions in relation to data privacy and security matters.
• Negotiating and drafting technology and data-related contracts, data processing agreements, and the data privacy/security terms of commercial contracts.
• Advising clients on data security, data breach, and incident response matters.

• A JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school with top academic credentials.
• Three to five years of experience in data privacy work in a law firm setting.
• Minnesota, Colorado, or Utah bar admission or the ability to become admitted in Minnesota, Colorado, or Utah.
• Strong communication and writing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, with limited supervision.
• CIPP, CISSP, or other privacy/security certifications a plus.

For Minneapolis applicants only, the salary range for this position is $225,000 – $265,000. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. The individual hired for this position may have the option of electing a lower billable-hours track with a proportional reduction in salary. Associates are eligible to participate in Dorsey’s associate bonus program, subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
