Summary Provides daily counsel and support to all business units and Human Resources concerning all aspects of labor and employment law. Coordinates and drives strategy and completion of employment-related projects, including internal process review, policy rollouts and implementation, and training. Keeps abreast of employment-related legal trends and issues that may affect Sevita and provides analysis of new and proposed employment legislation.
Participates in the definition and development of employee relations policies, procedures and programs and provides continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications on employee relations matters. Oversees employee litigation.
- Provides day-to-day advice and support to all business units and Human Resources concerning all aspects of the employment relationship, including affirmative action, background checks, immigration and benefits.
- Coordinates and drives completion of employment-related projects, including internal process review, policy rollouts and implementation, and training.
- Provides analysis of proposed and new employment legislation.
- Represents the company before federal and state agencies including preparing position statements on employee relations inquiries, appearing at hearings on behalf of the company and participating in alternative dispute resolution.
- Supervises outside counsel in the management of employment litigation.
- Develops a thorough understanding of Sevita’s business and culture to identify trends and anticipate issues to provide practical, business-oriented solutions and long-term strategies.
- Provides daily counsel on a diverse variety of labor and employment issues, including, but not limited to, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, WARN, OSHA, OFCCP regulations, and related state labor and employment laws.
- In partnership with Human Resources, conducts regular training of management on variety of legal topics, including employee relations best practices, investigation techniques, and compliance.
- Minimizes legal exposure through proactive review of existing routines and recommendation of new or revised ones.
- Participates in the definition and development of employee relations policies, procedures and programs and provides continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications on employee relations matters.
- Performs other related duties and activities as required.
- Manages assigned personnel. Completes performance evaluations, orientation, and training. Makes decisions on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves employee problems within position responsibilities.
- Oversight of Associate General Counsel positions.
- Indirect oversight of the Litigation and Compliance Paralegal.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required to perform the job.
Education And Experience- Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor
- Minimum of 10 years of combined law firm/in-house experience required
- Admitted to at least one state bar with membership in good standing

- Must communicate effectively with all internal constituents from employees to senior management, as well as external organizations including government enforcement agencies and outside counsel.
- Experience with negotiation of collective bargaining agreements
- Ability to travel as required by position, and potentially in excess of 25% of the time.
- Travel as needed up to 25% of the time.
