About Zawadi Center

Zawadi Center is a vibrant, community-anchored hospitality destination in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area. The center includes:

  • A full-service restaurant
  • A high-volume café
  • A large event center (up to 300 guests)
  • Office rental spaces
  • Strong community programming and cultural events

We are seeking a hands-on, experienced Hospitality General Manager to lead daily operations across the entire center, drive performance, build systems, and develop a strong, accountable team.

This role is ideal for a hospitality operator who thrives in fast-paced, multi-unit environments and understands culturally diverse teams and communities.

Position Summary

The General Manager is the operational leader of Zawadi Center. You will oversee all departments, manage managers and supervisors, implement systems, control costs, analyze performance, and ensure consistent execution across restaurant, café, event center, and office operations.

You will be responsible for P&L ownership, labor control, cost management, service standards, cleanliness, training, and staff accountability.

This is an on-site leadership role requiring daily presence and strong decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations of the restaurant, café, event center, and office spaces
  • Lead, coach, and hold accountable all department heads and supervisors
  • Establish clear expectations, workflows, and performance standards
  • Ensure consistent customer experience, cleanliness, and service quality
  • Resolve operational issues and staff challenges proactively

Financial Management & Metrics

  • Own and review monthly P&L statements with the CEO
  • Monitor and control:
    • Labor costs
    • Food & beverage costs
    • Operating expenses
    • Vendor spending
  • Implement cost-reduction strategies without compromising quality
  • Track and report key metrics (sales, labor %, food cost %, event revenue, productivity)

Staffing, Training & Accountability

  • Build and enforce SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Train supervisors and managers on leadership, scheduling, and performance management
  • Improve productivity and accountability across teams
  • Address underperformance with clear feedback and corrective action
  • Foster a respectful, culturally aware, and professional work environment

Event & Revenue Growth Support

  • Support and improve event operations and sales execution
  • Ensure strong coordination between kitchen, events, and front-of-house teams
  • Improve lead follow-up, booking efficiency, and event execution standards

Administration & Systems

  • Ensure proper scheduling, timekeeping, and payroll coordination
  • Support automation of recurring processes (billing, rent collection, reporting)
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and labor requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of hospitality management experience, preferably multi-unit or multi-concept
  • Proven experience managing restaurants, cafés, banquet/event operations, or hospitality centers
  • Strong understanding of P&L management, cost control, and labor optimization
  • Experience leading diverse teams in fast-paced environments
  • Comfortable enforcing standards and accountability
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work on-site full-time (8am–5pm or as needed)

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience working in culturally diverse or immigrant-led communities
  • Background in event venues, catering, or banquet operations
