Job SummaryOur drivers are primarily responsible for providing non-emergency transportation services for patients to and from their appointments y drive company-provided vehicles, adhere to appointment schedules, assist clients as needed, and ensure vehicles are in proper and safe-working condition.
Essential Functions- Transport patients to and from clinic according to the daily ride schedule. Record patient fail or cancellation on schedule.
- Keep record of mileage in/out for each trip. Record number of passengers transported and the clinic the patient(s) attended.
- Adhere to Minnesota driving laws when driving Indian Health Board vehicles.
- Attend department and IHB staff meetings.
- Maintain IHB vehicles: keep cars clean inside and out; monitor mileage for oil changes, tune-ups and other regularly scheduled maintenance. Report all repairs and scheduled maintenance to Transportation Supervisor.
- Keep cellular phones charged and working. Report any problems to Transportation Manager.
- Keep cars fueled; refill when tank reaches ¼. Purchase windshield washer fluid as needed and note on receipt.
- Be of assistance to clients at all times. Help clients in and out of cars (especially elderly and disabled), aid clients in getting to places of appointment, assist parents/guardians with several children, and assist clients in inclement weather.
- Ensure passengers are properly restrained before transporting. Children must be in car seats, booster seats or using seat belts. Do not transport clients not in compliance.
- Sign children in and out of the office when picking them up ldren must be signed in at school even if IHB did not pick them up from there.
- Sanitize and wipe down seats and armrests after each transport.
- Other duties deemed necessary by Supervisor.
- Assist with phone calls to confirm rides when needed.
- Transport labs, specimens, and supplies when requested.
- Take deposits and requests for change to the bank when requested.
- Wear assigned identification at all times while driving for IHB.
- Clean driving record. Must be insurable under IHB's insurance.
- Knowledge of basic and preventative automobile maintenance.
- Knowledge of metropolitan area.
- Good communication skills.
- Knowledge of and ability to adhere to Indian Health Board policies including Attendance Policy.
- Ability to understand and meet the needs of the patient through respectful, courteous and caring interactions with patients, families and other health professionals.
- Knows, understands and adheres to organizational policy related to the patient s rights for confidential care.
- Knowledge and respect of the American Indian culture.
- Actively participates and works positively, flexibly and cooperatively in a team effort to accomplish the goals of the Indian Health Board of Minneapolis.
The work is sedentary but may involve driving and some walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
