Job Overview

Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. This role is eligible for a $7500 New Hire Sign-On Bonus and a relocation bonus up to $5,000. As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.

This position is 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks). Holidays and call are not required. Shift: Ten Hour Night Shift, 8 PM – 6:30 AM, Thursday – Sunday. Shift differentials:

• Evening Hours $2.00/hr
• Night Hours $3.00/hr
• Weekend Premium $2.00/hr

• No call or holidays for this night shift position.
• The East Bank Campus is a teaching hospital with 24 newly renovated Operating Rooms.
• Our OR performs an average of 60 cases per day.

• Supply appropriate instruments, sutures, and specialty items.
• Maintain aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
• Ensure accurate identification and handling of specimens.
• Count all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
• Assure availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
• Modify clinical interventions based on population served.
• Support a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
• Anticipate the surgeon’s needs.
• Take appropriate action in emergency situations.

• Completion of one of the following by hire date:
  • Military Surgical Assistant; OR LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR Surgical Technologist training
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)

• Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire.
• 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience.

• Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of the population served.
• Knowledge of age‑appropriate outcomes and interventions.

• Ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
