Job Overview
Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN. This role is eligible for a $7500 New Hire Sign-On Bonus and a relocation bonus up to $5,000. As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
ScheduleThis position is 1.0 FTE (80 hours every two weeks). Holidays and call are not required. Shift: Ten Hour Night Shift, 8 PM – 6:30 AM, Thursday – Sunday. Shift differentials:
- Evening Hours $2.00/hr
- Night Hours $3.00/hr
- Weekend Premium $2.00/hr
- No call or holidays for this night shift position.
- The East Bank Campus is a teaching hospital with 24 newly renovated Operating Rooms.
- Our OR performs an average of 60 cases per day.

- Supply appropriate instruments, sutures, and specialty items.
- Maintain aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
- Ensure accurate identification and handling of specimens.
- Count all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
- Assure availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
- Modify clinical interventions based on population served.
- Support a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
- Anticipate the surgeon’s needs.
- Take appropriate action in emergency situations.
- Completion of one of the following by hire date:
- Military Surgical Assistant; OR LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR Surgical Technologist training
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)
- Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
- AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire.
- 1 to 3 years surgical tech experience.
- Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of the population served.
- Knowledge of age‑appropriate outcomes and interventions.
- Ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
