- This is a 100% in-person position based at our Mankato, MN office. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this role.
Director of Finance
Greater Mankato United Way – Mankato, MNGreater Mankato United Way is seeking an experienced, strategic, and detail-oriented Director of Finance to lead our financial operations and administrative functions. This senior leadership role is responsible for financial management, accounting, budgeting, compliance, and operational efficiency for our nonprofit organization.
The Director of Finance and Administration plays a critical role in ensuring the organization’s financial health and supporting our mission to improve lives in the Greater Mankato area.
Key Responsibilities Major Areas Of Responsibility- Ensure accountability by preparing accurate quarterly financial statements, monthly bank reconciliations, verification of deposits, and all aspects of the annual budget, all government reports, journal entries (adjusting, clearing and closing), and reconciling subsidiary ledgers.
- Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll coordination with our outsourced payroll managers and CEO. Prepare event/sponsor invoices and post payments. Work with the administrative team to ensure accurate and timely reports. Prepare monthly campaign accounts receivable and update reports along with quarterly financial reports for Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
- Work with employee group benefit insurances as well as the corporate liability insurances and worker’s compensation insurance.
- Attend and participate on Finance Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors.
- Act as United Way staff liaison to ensure successful completion of annual audit, federal 990, United Way Worldwide reports and certifications, and state annual reporting. Conduct RFP’s when needed and investment analysis.
- Be a link between Donation Tracker accounts receivable and Quick Books financial software. Work with the Data Systems Manager to reconcile the records between Donation Tracker and Quick Books to ensure accurate reporting and collecting of donation receivables.
- Assist with data entry and report generation relating to campaign pledges when needed during peak campaign months.
- Ensure the completion of United Way reports such as but not limited to:
Data Base II, Membership Certification, and other required reports.
- Act as a backup in handling campaign statistical reports.
- Maintain allocation statistical reports as required.
- Prepare other reports for staff as requested and as time permits.
- Complete and submit annual State Combined Campaign application.
- Provide general office support.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Preferably a degree in accounting, bookkeeping, or business emphasis
- Preferably nonprofit experience
- Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping functions
- Knowledge and experience with Quick Books accounting software
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications with an emphasis in Excel
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work and complete it accurately within established time frames
- Ability to effectively communicate via written and verbal communication with people at all levels
- Demonstrate integrity and discretion in handling confidential information
- Nonprofit finance experience
- Board reporting experience
- Experience managing cross-functional administrative operations
