Commissions Manager

Position Summary

The Commissions Manager is responsible for owning and overseeing the firm’s commissions and advisor compensation processes, managing the Commissions team, and serving as a senior resource for financial advisors on commissions-related matters. This role ensures accuracy, timeliness, and transparency of commissions reporting and payouts, while partnering closely with advisors, Operations, Finance, and leadership to resolve issues and continuously improve compensation workflows.

This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end commissions and advisor compensation process, including data validation, reporting, statement preparation, adjustments, and issue resolution.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and day-to-day management of Commissions Associates, including workflow oversight, training, performance support, and professional development.
  • Serve as a primary escalation point for financial advisors regarding commissions inquiries, discrepancies, payout calculations, and compensation plan interpretation.
  • Review, approve, and oversee preparation and distribution of commissions statements, ensuring accuracy and consistency across clearing platforms and internal systems.
  • Partner with Operations and Finance to reconcile commissions data, research variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely and well-documented manner.
  • Support implementation and administration of compensation plans, payout schedules, grid updates, and special compensation arrangements.
  • Oversee initiation and controls related to commissions-related payments and adjustments, ensuring adherence to firm policies and internal controls.
  • Ensure representative data used for compensation purposes is accurate and up to date within firm systems and CRM platforms.
  • Maintain commissions procedures, documentation, logs, and audit-ready records to support internal reviews, regulatory inquiries, and financial reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve reporting accuracy, enhance advisor experience, and implement system or process improvements.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Compliance, IT, and senior leadership on cross-functional initiatives impacting advisor compensation and service delivery.
  • Support special projects and strategic initiatives related to compensation, reporting, and operational scalability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field required; advanced education or certifications preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in broker/dealer or RIA compensation, commissions, accounting, or financial operations, with prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of advisor compensation structures, clearing platform data, and commissions reporting workflows.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage deadlines, and resolve complex compensation issues with professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Excellent analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work directly with financial advisors and senior stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Excel, reporting tools, CRM systems, and compensation or payroll platforms.

Salary & Benefits

  • The salary range for this role is $100,000 to $120,000
