Hours expected are between 30‑40 per week.
Summary
In this role, you will apply what you’ve learned in school to assist in the manufacturing design and assembly process in the industrial automation industry. This summer position will take place onsite at our Brooklyn Park location. Relocation assistance is not provided. This position reports to Manufacturing Engineer 1.
According to the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act), this position is classified as:
Non‑Exempt, based on the Professional Exemption.
- Support the fixture development and assembly process
- Create assembly procedures and routings
- Develop concepts and design assembly fixtures to support process improvements
- Design and acquire prototype parts for internal evaluation
- Design experiments for process improvement activities
- Participate in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) meetings
- Evaluate designs through testing including performing stress, thermal, and tolerance analyses
- Test new designs with production staff, record feedback and make changes as allowed
- Support pre‑production engineering builds and the manufacturing release process
- Assist with product performance testing and data collection for engineering change orders
- Other duties as assigned

Required- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn advanced design/manufacturing techniques
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (creating graphs and charts, using formulas, creating V‑lookups, and filtering information)
- Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while balancing priorities
- Experience using solid modeling tools (CREO preferred, Solidworks, etc.)
- Robotic equipment used for assembly processes such as adhesive dispensing and/or soldering
- Ultrasonic plastic welding
- 3D printing experience
- Sit for up to 8 hours per day
- Exposed to a computer screen for up to 8 hours per day
- Utilize a computer mouse, keyboard, computer, and other standard office equipment
- Required to talk or hear frequently
- Manufacturing or warehouse environment – indoor and climate‑controlled. Moderate noise level in the work environment.
