The Structural Engineer II supports large, multi-year hydroelectric dam reconstruction and upgrade projects within a major capital projects group. This role focuses on heavy structural steel, large reinforced concrete, and construction activities at active dam facilities under federal (FERC) oversight.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a technical interface between the owner’s project team, construction managers, external contractors, and design engineers
- Support construction-phase issue resolution by reviewing field conditions and coordinating design clarifications
- Review and comment on design documents, contractor submittals, RFIs, and technical transmittals
- Conduct regular site visits to observe structural work, support quality oversight, and gather field feedback
- Assist with organizing technical documentation, project records, and regulatory (FERC-related) filings
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET‑accredited)
- Approximately 5–7 years of relevant structural engineering experience
- Strong experience with reinforced concrete and structural steel for heavy civil or infrastructure projects
- Experience supporting construction or large capital projects
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites
- Experience with hydroelectric facilities, dams, spillways, or work in water environments
- Familiarity with FERC or similar regulatory frameworks
- Background in heavy civil infrastructure (dams, bridges, large concrete/steel structures)
- PE or FE/EIT (preferred, not required)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document management platforms (e.g., SharePoint)
- Ability to view and interpret CAD drawings (AutoCAD, Micro Station, or similar)
- Strong communication, organization, and self-management skills
