POSITION
PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for conceptualizing and designing products in accordance with company goals and objectives in a timely and cost-effective manner. The Senior Design Engineer will design, research, prototype, create engineering documentation including bills of material and oversee the manufacturing process for new and existing products.
- Lead design and development of custom automation and material handling systems.
- Create and review mechanical designs, layouts, calculations, and CAD models.
- Support manufacturing with build guidance and troubleshooting.
- Oversee technical quality and consistency of engineering outputs.
- Mentor and develop a small team of engineers.
- Conduct informal design reviews and provide technical guidance.
- Assist in prioritizing projects and engineering workload.
- Support sales and customer-facing teams with technical input during quoting and concept development.
- Lead engineer on design projects responsible for project management including; scope, schedule, budget and successful execution.
- Develop and contribute to new technologies, systems, tools, automation, and products that will enhance the company’s growth and capability.
- Develop full product lines for all segments across the organization per defined objectives.
- Partner with product management, sales and manufacturing to ensure efficiency, productivity, and on-time delivery of projects.
- Mentor Design Engineers as part of complete team to ensure design activities and goals are completed.
- Assist with the manufacturing and development process necessary to produce, enhance, and improve products.
- Research and design test methods with written procedures to demonstrate product quality when required for both in process testing and final product quality analysis. Assist and/or coordinate third party independent testing of products when appropriate.
- Identify cost saving methods which would be applied to manufacturing, production, and/or assembly of products.
- Regularly communicate with management on the status and progress of projects and product designs.
- Assist product management, sales and marketing in presentations, promotions, and the preparation of advertising literature.
- Willing and able to travel to customer sites and attend trade shows.
- Develop a network of engineering and other professional contacts to increase the awareness of and to improve the company’s technologies and capabilities.
- Keep informed of key industry and market information including trends, emerging technologies, and resource enhancements.
- Perform special projects as assigned by management.
- Adhere to and promote all company standards and policies.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing methods.
- Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Highly motivated “self-starter” attitude.
- Proven ability to influence people and teams to achieve successful results.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.

- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose operations problems/issues.
- Understanding of tools, gages, and other various instruments used to manufacture and inspect production parts.
- Comprehension of the company’s products and processes.
- Understanding and specific knowledge of materials.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office, ERP, Solid Works (strongly preferred) and/or AutoCAD software, including creating and interpreting CAD prints.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- B.S. Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Six plus years of experience in design or mechanical engineering.
- Experience in automation and/or material handling industry.

Starting salary: $100,000 - $115,000
