VAA is a leading engineering, planning and design firm specializing in commercial projects, bulk commodity‑handling facilities, and structures for value‑added processing, manufacturing and distribution. We serve a diverse portfolio from multinational corporations to local municipalities and individual farms.
Our Electrical team focuses on designing electrical power systems for industrial facilities such as seed oil, specialty chemical, grain handling, and feed mills. We perform pre‑construction estimating, green‑energy design for municipal and industrial clients, and provide analytical services—load flow studies, short‑circuit analysis, device coordination, arc‑flash risk assessment, harmonic analysis, and power‑factor correction.
Your role (Staff Engineer)- Utilize problem‑solving ability and engineering fundamentals to develop design solutions in a team setting.
- Contribute to the preparation of high‑quality design documents, including calculations, drawings and specifications.
- Deliver value to the design team and clients through an expanding knowledge of design codes and industry standards.
- Use design software with increasing efficiency and depth of understanding.
- Undertake increasingly complex design tasks with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Perform construction‑phase site observations and prepare reports to support our projects and gain valuable experience.
- Potential 5% travel to construction job sites.
- Deliver high quality engineering services rooted in knowledge of engineering fundamentals, design codes, and industry standards, along with problem‑solving ability and analytical skills.
- Review project documents for quality and coordination with all disciplines.
- Identify and assess design options in the preliminary phase to inform sound decision making.
- Support the development and success of peers and less experienced engineers.
- Work efficiently and collaborate effectively with the project team, including external members, to deliver value to clients.
- Prepare calculations, edit specifications, and coordinate drawings.
- Communicate with clients/contractors concerning construction RFI’s and review shop drawings.
- Write proposals and help estimate project fees, as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- 3+ years of experience.
- PE is preferred, but not required.
Starting Annual Salary Range: $65,000 – $105,000. Factors considered include market data, geographic location, experience, and specialized skills.
