OpportunityOverview
We're looking for an Environmental/Civil Engineer to join a long‑term program focused on closing and remediating historical/retired coal plant sites. You will help plan work such as soil restoration, coal ash management, and removal of contaminated materials, while building multiyear project portfolios that ensure sustained compliance with MPCA, EPA, and related regulations. You will collaborate with our Environmental Services team, external engineering consultants, construction partners, and internal PM/CM partners.
This is a growth role added to meet rising environmental project demand and to support a multiyear transition to cleaner, compliant sites.
- Support development of long‑term environmental compliance portfolios aligned with MPCA/EPA standards.
- Contribute to closure/remediation scopes, cost/schedule inputs, and sequencing in partnership with PMs/CMs.
- Conduct field visits and inspections.
- Observe contractor activities; verify work vs. plans/specs; document findings, issues, and progress.
- Prepare/review technical documentation, design inputs, and permit/compliance deliverables.
- Partner with Internal Environmental Services on regulator interfaces and compliance strategy.
- Coordinate with external engineering firms (environmental & civil design) and construction companies on constructability, logistics, and execution.
- 5-7+ years of civil/environmental engineering experience (midcareer up to ~15 years considered).
- 5+ years of experience working with environmental regulations (as a regulator, consultant, or owner/operator).
- ABET‑accredited degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering.
- Valid driver's license; ability to travel to sites.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $78‑81/hr.
