IMEG is growing, and we’d love to have you join our team. We are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Designer in our Minneapolis, MN office. As a Senior Electrical Designer, you will provide a high level of leadership, mentoring, and training for less experienced staff, which may include technical, project management, marketing, or business development activities.

Technical and Project Management Path

The Senior Electrical Designer will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead designer for moderate to complex projects. They will work with a team of engineers and consultants to provide project direction, engineering solutions, and client guidance to ensure positive outcomes. Primary responsibilities include project management, engineering analysis, design and implementation oversight of electrical systems in buildings. Additional responsibilities include working within the project budget, assisting in training and mentoring, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, oversee and manage projects ranging in size and complexity
  • Assist Project Executives and Client Executives with design scopes of work and fee calculations for proposal generation, and with contract reviews
  • Create project schedules including targets for milestones and deadlines
  • Serve as the point of contact for teams and clients
  • Create monthly billings and submit financial information to Accounting in a timely manner; update billing projections and estimated completion percentage for all projects monthly
  • Ensure design follows owner standards, IMEG standards, and code requirements; ensure milestone deliverables are achieved, quality control processes are completed, and construction technical support occurs in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with design staff and coordinate scheduling of projects during all phases of design and construction; schedule and lead progress meetings and provide meeting documentation
  • Conduct construction site visits and provide documentation as needed or requested
  • Respond to and resolve client/construction concerns; manage change orders and obtain appropriate approvals
  • Train, mentor, and motivate staff
  • Build, maintain, and develop client relationships
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Adept in the technical aspects of one’s discipline; advanced proficiency in circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems
  • Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards and resources such as NFPA links and related references
  • Advanced proficiency with Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS; proficiency with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
  • Ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others
  • Ability to perform final quality control checks in their area of expertise
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
  • Strong training and mentoring skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to communicate clearly in both oral and written forms
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the building design consulting industry; 8+ preferred
  • Alternatively, an Associate’s degree or certificate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering with 11+ years of experience; 12+ preferred

  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
