Project Controls Specialist
WSP USA is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to join our Transportation and Infrastructure team. The position will be based out of WSP’s Minneapolis, Minnesota office and support client programs both locally and nationally.
This position will be responsible for providing technical support and consultation for multiple project control functions including estimating, cost control, document control, and project management information systems. The Project Controls Specialist applies advanced project controls techniques to maintain scope, schedule, and cost controls across large programs. As the local project controls practice grows, you will be asked to mentor, direct, and oversee the work of earlier career staff as we build a local team to support client programs.
Responsibilities- Support Project Manager and Project Controls Manager with estimating, cost/budget control, change management, and scope/control for assigned projects.
- Resolve issues and align scheduling, cost control, and scope change functions.
- Work with the project controls team on cost estimating, document control, and change management.
- Prepare construction cost estimates using contractor‑style estimates during design and for construction change orders.
- Develop and prepare project control reports.
- Assist in the development of project controls dashboards and reporting methods.
- Monitor progress, calculate performance metrics, and analyze variance to plan based on predetermined thresholds.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field.
- 7+ years of relevant experience on major infrastructure programs.
- Project Controls experience as a client’s agent providing program or construction management services.
- Knowledge of cost management systems and practices.
- Experience in scope/change management, claims mitigation and forensic analysis.
- Responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Registered Professional Engineer in Minnesota or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) development, implementation and analysis.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Power
BI, SharePoint). - Proficiency in Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
