Overview
Primary Talent Partners has a new contract opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer II with our medical device client in Minneapolis, MN. This is an 11-month contract with a potential for extension.
Pay: $28.00 - $37.00/hr; W2 contract, no PTO, no Benefits. ACA-compliant supplemental package available for enrollment.
Responsibilities- Design and Development: Plan, design, develop, and verify mechanical and electromechanical systems such as implantable neurostimulators, external neurostimulators, and patient therapy remotes, ensuring these products achieve high standards of safety, reliability, and performance.
- Project Management: Manage projects from initial concept through to full-scale manufacturing, ensuring all deliverables meet product requirements, technical specifications, timelines, and budget constraints.
- Innovation and Improvement: Recommend and implement options or approaches to enhance safety, performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of systems, processes, and facilities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical and systems engineers, to deliver integrated solutions.
- Problem Solving: Analyze complex engineering problems, providing in-depth analysis and innovative solutions to improve processes and products.
- Prototyping and Testing: Oversee the creation of prototypes and conduct rigorous testing to validate and refine designs. This role may include design characterization and design verification protocols, analysis and reports, and aspects of test equipment qualification and test method validation.
- Documentation and Compliance: Prepare detailed engineering documentation and ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and department best practices.
- Communication and Influence: Communicate effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders.

- Works independently with general supervision on larger, moderately complex projects/assignments.
- Organizational Impact: Sets objectives for own job area to meet project objectives and milestones; may contribute to cross-functional assignments.

- Practical knowledge and demonstrated competence within the field, typically through advanced education plus experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience.
- Component/Product design (drawings, tolerancing, Bill of Materials)
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Excellent technical writing skills including test protocols and test reports
- Experience in test method development, execution and data analysis
- General experience with Mechanical Engineering
- Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
- Concept generation and selection
- Demonstrated ability to conduct DFMEA
- Experience in verification testing, including test planning, execution, data acquisition, data analysis and documentation
- Experience performing statistical analysis using Minitab or similar
- Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and materials selection for medical applications
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (e.g., Creo, Solid Works, or equivalent)
- Relevant experience in Medical Device Industry
