Application Engineer
The Application/Sales Engineer (Estimator) plays a vital role in supporting the Sales and Engineering departments through project coordination, cost estimation, and customer support. This position requires a technically skilled, self-driven, customer-oriented individual with strong problem-solving abilities and experience in subcontract medical device component manufacturing. The ideal candidate is goal-focused and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Shift: M-F, daylight hours
Pay: $75,000-$125,000 annually, based on experience
Responsibilities- Interpret and evaluate customer engineering drawings, including GD&T specifications, to ensure accurate application in manufacturing.
- Provide prompt and professional responses to customer inquiries regarding manufacturing engineering details, delivery timelines, and sales orders.
- Train with the Sales Department to learn the quotation process and develop preliminary cost estimates.
- Collaborate with Purchasing, Quality Control, and the Operations Manager to align manufacturing outcomes with customer requirements.
- Support the Sales Team by following up on quotes, prioritizing requests, and providing timely updates.
- Enter quotation and order data accurately into the ERP system (JobBOSS).
- Manage the transition from quote to order by preparing detailed job traveler routings for production execution.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of all in-house manufacturing processes and equipment, as well as inspection methods and outsourced services.
- Research specialized processes and materials (e.g., heat treat, coatings, passivation) to support internal teams with accurate technical knowledge.
- Monitor production schedules and communicate deadlines to ensure on-time delivery while resolving potential issues proactively.
- Maintain professional communication with customers and suppliers via phone and email.
- Develop and nurture both current and prospective customer relationships.
- Assist the Quality Systems Manager in investigating customer complaints and returns in accordance with internal procedures.
- Mentor and support Engineering/Sales Coordinators to ensure smooth order processing and team development.
- Lead or support special projects as assigned by management.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Associate degree required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience. - Familiarity with ISO 13485 standards and regulatory expectations within the medical device industry.
- Advanced blueprint reading skills, including GD&T interpretation.
- Deep knowledge of medical devices, raw materials, and treatments (heat treat, stress relief, coatings, passivation, electropolishing).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing methods and vendor services.
- Proficient in ERP software (e.g., JobBOSS), Microsoft Office Suite, Solid Works, CAD/CAM, and internet research.
