What will you do?
The State Director will lead a scrappy, start-up organization to mobilize student voters. This position will work closely with in-state partners, statewide tables, and national partners, and a Senior Advisor with a long career in Minnesota politics and campus organizing.
- Set up a campus organizing program that can scale exponentially, hiring managers, organizers, and student fellows that are excited to mobilize students on campus; manage the team to execute against key goals and metrics.
- Develop a strategic vision for mobilizing student voters across MN in collaboration with team members; develop creative activations and stunts.
- Skillfully communicate the strategic vision to key stakeholders including partners, funders, prospective team members, and students.
- Manage the statewide budget and compliance processes in partnership with a Senior Advisor.
- Work with the team to develop student-oriented stickers, swag, and literature that will “go viral” on campus.
- Work with partner organizations to develop paid media and other youth-focused digital programming.
A successful candidate for this role will:
- Have 2+ campaign cycles of experience, with at least one cycle managing staff. Experience with campus organizing is a plus.
- Be an organizing thought-leader, interested in pushing forward creative tactics to mobilize young voters.
- Have an entrepreneurial spirit and start-up founder mentality. You’re scrappy and sometimes shameless when needed. You’re flexible to a changing environment and excited to “build the plane while flying it.”
- Ask for help when needed and be eager to work with an experienced Senior Advisor.
- Have prior management experience and be excited to mentor the next generation of organizers and student leaders.
- Be able to build relationships and trust among partner organizations, organizers, and students from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds.
- Be familiar with college campuses and political dynamics in MN.
- Be eager to travel to campuses to coach organizers and students.
- Having existing relationships with student leaders, organizers, and political organization leaders is a plus.
- Have a driver's license and access to a reliable car.
- Be able to work weekends and irregular hours as required.
The salary for this position starts at $8,000/month.
