PROGRAM: Boys and Girls Club and Culture Language Arts Network (CLAN) Program
SALARY: $20 – 22/hour, 40 hours per week, Full-Time

JOB OVERVIEW

The primary responsibility of the Teen Tech Assistant is to supervise youth; assist with engaging youth in project-based learning; and provide overall operational assistance to the Teen Tech Center Coordinator and CLAN Technology Assistant.

The Teen Tech Center is an interactive designed for teens to collaborate and experiment with technology. The Teen Tech Center provides support and resources for young people to pursue their interests and build upon their talents while learning Indigenous Ojibwe or Dakota language. In the Teen Tech Center, youth can create their own projects such as music products, digital art, videos, and animation using professional level technology.

Working in conjunction with the Minneapolis American Indian Center’s Boys and Girls Club and the Culture Language Arts Network, program volunteer mentors, the assistant will be a primary contact for youth after school and during evening hours and summer. Schedule will vary and will include daytime, evening, and weekend hours.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide support to the Teen Tech Center Coordinator and CLAN Technology Assistant
  • Supervise youth during Teen Tech Center programming and activities
  • Build positive mentoring relationships with youth and support their development
  • Assist with planning and facilitating project-based learning activities, workshops, and events
  • Support youth with homework help, tutoring, and academic enrichment
  • Assist youth with technology-based projects including digital media, music production, photography, video production, coding, and other creative technologies
  • Assist with troubleshooting technology and maintaining equipment and program supplies
  • Support youth using creative tools including Adobe Creative Suite, recording studio equipment, digital cameras, 3D printers, and coding platforms such as Scratch
  • Promote teamwork, creativity, and leadership development among youth
  • Assist with snack and meal service during programming
  • Help maintain clean, organized program areas and equipment
  • Assist with youth transportation to and from program activities when needed
  • Work collaboratively with MAIC staff, volunteers, and community partners to support youth programming
  • Support culturally grounded programming that reflects the values of the American Indian community
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities
  • Maintain confidentiality when working with youth, families, volunteers, and staff
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience engaging American Indian youth and/or families in an out-of-school time setting is preferred
  • Knowledge of the Minneapolis American Indian community, cultural values, and cultural practices is preferred
  • Enthusiasm for learning, exploring and teaching about the various applications of technology
  • Great interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Should be a self-starter; demonstrate an ability to initiate and complete tasks
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office and other relevant software
  • Able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and able to operate a company owned vehicle
  • OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    This is an onsite role, expect during field trips and youth transport to/from the Club.

    • Days of work are typically Monday through Friday, with a combination of daytime and evening hours, and occasional weekends. Schedule varies from summer to school year.
